Yet, a car is stolen in the United States every 24 seconds according to the Insurance Information Institute. Auto theft continues to thrive despite those lists and regardless of new anti-theft technology that emerges with every new model year.

Below you’ll find InsWeb’s complete 2010 Car Insurance Affordability Index. To develop the list, InsWeb ranked all 50 states and Washington D.C. according to affordability factor. A state’s affordability factor is determined by dividing its median household car insurance rate by its median household income. The lower the factor, the less a typical family in that state tends to spend on car insurance relative to its budget.

Fewer Drunk Drivers, But 16.3% Of Night Drivers Stoned

Looks like it’s one of those good news bad news things from NHTSA. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (the people that keep track of accidents and crash test cars) have just released a new study showing that there are fewer drunks on the roads these days (yay!) but strangely enough, over 16 percent of drivers on the roads at night are on some sort of drug (wha?).

A $16-million effort by auto insurers to ease regulations may not be over despite state voters’ decision to reject Proposition 17, which would have allowed drivers to take their continuous-coverage discount with them if they switched carriers.

AAA Hawaii lowers car insurance rates

Insurance from AAA in Hawaii will now cost 10 percent less thanks to an approval from the state insurance commissioner. The company said the lower premiums would save Hawaiians about $120 a year on average.
