Average six-month auto insurance prices in California dropped 3% over the past year to $809, according to InsWeb Corp. Over the same 1 year period, the national average car insurance rate declined about 5.5 percent to $675. Male drivers in California pay an average of $836 versus women who pay $772 over six months for car insurance.
Drivers in the 19 and under group pay an average of $2,141 per 6 months. The 20-24 yos average $1,154 every 6 months. The lowest car insurance rates of $654, were for the 50-59 yos.
